I love Nia because......

It makes me feel so fabulous! I love that I can dance barefoot and there are no restrictions to how I feel the music and how I let my body move to that beat. I love the music and the opportunity it allows me to listen to my body and also enjoy my body and how it moves.
I attended a workshop on the 9th July 2011 organised by Jenny-Lynne Roos who passionately shares Nia in Windhoek; and immediately fell in love with the practice. When I first heard that Nia provides JOY I thought it may be one of these hippie techniques that may include chanting and all kinds of mumbo jumbo that I am not completely convinced about.  After my first hour of Nia I was converted.
I felt it. I felt Joy. An internal contentment I have long been searching for and I knew Nia would become a part of my life.
I now attend Nia classes with Jenny-Lynne twice a week and it is such a source of happiness for me. I believe it is how I have been able to fall in love with myself again. It has been the start of my Nia journey that positively shapes the way I look, feel, think and live.
I will be attending a Nia intensive in Cape Town in February 2012 to obtain my White belt training so I can deepen Nia in my life as well as possibly share it with others.
What is Nia?
Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that leads to health, wellness and fitness. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit. Nia draws from disciplines of the martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. Every class offers a unique combination of 52 moves that correspond with the main areas of the body: the base, the core and the upper extremities. Nia blends 9 movement forms from the areas of Martial Arts (Tai Chi, Tae Kwon Do, Aikido) Dance Arts (jazz dance, modern dance, Duncan dance) and the Healing Arts (yoga, Alexander technique, Feldenkrais method).
Why was Nia created?
Nia was created in 1983 by Debbie Rosas and Carlos Rosas. Nia’s purpose is to grow a worldwide community of healthy people who are empowered to do great things. The Nia community believes every person can discover, explore, unleash and enhance their individual potential to live a fulfilling and meaningful life – by engaging their senses and listening to their bodies.

with joy...
